The official visit of Qatar's Consul General to Milan, Abdulla Al Zeyara, took place on the morning of November 5, 2025, at the Prefecture of Varese. He, accompanied by Vice Consul Abdulla Mohamed Al Noaimi, was welcomed by Salvatore Pasquariello, Prefect of the Province of Varese.
The meeting was held in a climate of institutional collaboration, focusing on the strategic importance of the Province of Varese, particularly its industrial vocation, its border location, and the presence of Milan Malpensa International Airport.
Security issues were also discussed, with a focus on the Malpensa airport hub, especially in view of the numerous delegations arriving—including that of Qatar—to attend the upcoming Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
During the visit, the Prefect emphasized how diplomatic dialogue is essential to addressing security challenges and seizing the region's economic development opportunities.
Consul General Al Zeyara thanked the Prefect for his cooperation, confirming Qatar's interest in a continued and constructive relationship with the Italian community and institutions.
The visit concluded with a mutual commitment to continue and intensify dialogue on all issues of common interest, laying the foundation for future joint initiatives, in line with the strengthening of strategic cooperation between Italy and Qatar.
Prefect Pasquariello expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Consul's visit to Varese, recognizing the importance of such meetings in consolidating the security network and promoting growth opportunities for the region.
The meeting in Varese is part of the recent strengthening of bilateral cooperation on security matters, which saw Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi pay an official visit to Doha on September 24 and 25, where he met with Qatari Interior Minister Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani, whom he had previously received at the Ministry of the Interior on June 6, 2025.
